Glossary
Terms you'll see in Scowty's dashboard, monthly reports, and help articles. Sorted A-Z.
AI citation tracking
The work of asking AI engines (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) the same query on a regular schedule and recording whether your business is mentioned in the response. Cadence depends on your tier.
AI engine
A search-augmented language model that answers user questions with synthesized responses. Scowty tracks four: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
AI judge
The internal quality-check layer in Scowty's system that reviews every generated output before delivering it to you. Outputs below the quality threshold automatically regenerate. You never see fail-flagged outputs.
AI Overview
The AI-generated summary that appears at the top of Google search results for many queries. Distinct from ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity. Scowty tracks Google AI Overviews as one of the four AI engines.
Audit
The diagnostic process that scores your website, Google Business Profile, schema, and AI citation rate against the standards in your vertical playbook. Produces a list of findings with severity and recommended actions. Cadence depends on your tier.
Citation rate
The percentage of your tracked target queries that cited your business in a given AI engine over a given period. Reported per engine in your dashboard.
Citation position
How prominently your business is cited in an AI engine's response. Four levels: primary (the engine recommends you as the answer), secondary (named alongside others), mention (briefly referenced), or none (not cited).
Citations (in our context)
Mentions of your business in AI engine responses. Distinct from "citations" in academic or scientific contexts.
CMS
Content Management System. The platform your website runs on (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.). If you keep your existing site, Scowty delivers recommendations that your CMS admin publishes.
Content library
The part of your dashboard containing everything Scowty has generated for you: blog posts, GBP posts, schema, meta rewrites, reports, and brand assets.
GBP (Google Business Profile)
Your business's listing on Google Maps and in local search results. The single most important asset for local-serving businesses. Scowty audits yours and helps you improve it.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
The work of improving your business's online presence so AI engines cite it. Distinct from traditional SEO, which targets Google's organic results. Scowty was designed around GEO from day one.
Local pack
The three Google Maps results Google shows above the organic listings for many local queries. The highest-converting search channel for local-serving businesses.
Long-tail query
A specific, niche search query, like "estate planning for unmarried couples in Orlando" vs the broader "estate planning attorney Orlando." Long-tail queries are easier to rank for and often convert better than head queries.
Monthly report
The plain-English report Scowty generates for you each month. Covers your four headline numbers (new leads from search, GBP actions, AI citation rate, top 5 ranked queries) and what changed.
One-time build
Scowty's fixed-price branding and website work, separate from the monthly subscription. Three packages: logo and brand story ($495), logo, brand, and website ($1,995), or logo, brand, and website plus 3 months of SEO ($2,495).
Playbook
The vertical-specific knowledge base Scowty's system uses to score your audits and inform your content. Three at launch: solo lawyers, dentists, accountants. More coming.
Regenerate
The option on any generated piece of content to have Scowty produce a different version. The system uses your "why I regenerated" feedback to improve the next attempt.
Schema markup
Invisible JSON-LD code embedded in your website's pages that tells search engines and AI engines what's on each page in machine-readable form. Scowty creates and maintains schema for your pages.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
The traditional discipline of improving your website's ranking in Google's organic search results. Scowty does this plus GEO.
Share of voice
Your business's portion of total citations in a category, vs the citations going to your competitors. A higher share of voice means you're winning more queries against the competition.
Tier
Your subscription level: Starter ($199/mo), Growth ($349/mo), or Pro ($499/mo). Determines audit cadence, content volume, query count, and other features. Annual prepay saves about 17 percent. Change tiers any time by asking in the chat at scowty.com/chat or emailing hello@scowty.com.
Target queries
The search phrases Scowty tracks for you across the four AI engines and Google. Auto-suggested at signup based on your vertical and city. You can change them anytime.
Vertical
Your industry: lawyer, dentist, accountant, with more coming. Determines which playbook Scowty's system uses to score your audits and inform your content.
Voice (brand voice)
Your business's tone of voice in writing. Formal vs casual, authoritative vs collaborative, and so on. Captured at signup via the brand voice questionnaire or your notes. The voice description is part of every content generation prompt the system runs for you.
